Maroons and Generals Men's Soccer Play to 0-0 Push

LEXINGTON – The Roanoke College men's soccer team, ranked #21 in the D3Soccer.com poll, played Washington and Lee to a 0-0 tie on Saturday afternoon.  The Maroons now have a record of 8-1-1; 4-0-1 in the ODAC, while the Generals have a mark of 5-0-5; 3-0-2 in ODAC play.

The Maroons last 0-0 tie came almost exactly a year ago as Roanoke played Lynchburg College to the scoreless push.  Roanoke still holds the all-time series advantage over the Generals, leading 39-31-6.

Washington and Lee fired a number of shots in the opening minutes of the contest, making four attempts in the first seven minutes.  Roanoke had opportunities as well, with a pair of shots and a corner kick in the final moments of the first half, neither falling for the Maroons.  Roanoke was able to hold Washington and Lee scoreless over the final moments of the second half, as the Generals took a corner kick leading to a blocked header as the period closed.  After regulation, the teams were still tied at 0-0.

During overtime, Marc Dinkel took the Maroons lone shot in the first minute, only to be blocked.  The Maroons were able to keep the Generals from scoring in the first OT period.  Neither team could get a shot off in the second overtime period as Roanoke and Washington and Lee played to a 0-0 tie.

Marc Dinkel finished the contest with a team high three shots, followed by Jackson Goyette with two.  Five different Maroons tallied one shot each.  Cole Sinclair played 65 minutes in net, tallying three saves, while Will Dooley played the remaining 45 minutes and picked up six saves.

The Generals outshot the Maroons 18-10 on the evening, while both teams were unable to get a shot off in the second overtime period.  Washington and Lee also led in corner kicks 6-3.  Roanoke held the advantage in saves 9-5.

The Maroons return to action on Wednesday, October 9th as they take on Bridgewater College at Donald J. Kerr Stadium.  That contest is scheduled for a 7:00 PM start.
