Roanoke Falls to Randolph in ODAC Battle of Top Teams
SALEM – The top two men's soccer teams in the Old Dominion Athletic Conference faced off at Kerr Stadium on Saturday night, as #17(NSCAA)/#25(D3Soccer.com) Randolph College defeated #22(D3Soccer.com) Roanoke College 2-1 in overtime.  The Maroons now have a record of 9-2-1, 5-1-1 in the ODAC, while the WildCats are 11-0-1; 6-0 in ODAC play.

Roanoke held Randolph, who has the fifth best scoring offense in the NCAA (3.8 goals per game), to just two goals on Saturday.  With the loss tonight, Roanoke now has an all-time record against Randolph College of 3-3-1. Roanoke's last victory over Randolph came in the ODAC Semifinals in 2012, where the Maroons won 3-0, eventually winning the ODAC Championship.

The WildCats struck first in the contest, as John Vecchietti scored from just outside the 18 with a laser shot to the left side of the goal.  Corey Sindle tallied the assist, as Randolph took a 1-0 lead just 22 minutes into the half.  The Maroons responded in just six minutes later as Robby Lentine was fouled inside the box, leading to a Roanoke penalty kick.  Patrick Bain stepped up for the Maroons, as he placed the ball in the upper right hand corner, scoring the equalizer.

The two teams battled back and forth through the second half, both getting off four shots in the period.  However, neither team could find the back of the net in regulation, leading to a golden goal overtime period.  Randolph's Nick Cornell fired a shot at the goal that slipped past the keeper, and Will Wolf snuck behind to capitalize with the game winner.

Randolph led Roanoke in shots 14-12, including a 3-0 margin in the overtime period.  Brian White topped the Maroons in shots with three, followed by Garrett Eldridge and Patrick Bain with two each.  Cole Sinclair and Will Dooley split time in goal, with Dooley picking up 50 minutes of action.  Both keepers finished with two saves each.

The Maroons return to action on Wednesday, October 16th as they travel to Rocky Mount, NC to take on North Carolina Wesleyan College.  That contest is scheduled for a 4:00 PM start.
