Today's contest between the Maroons and the Battling Bishops was the first time the two teams had met since 2003. Roanoke won the last meeting against N.C. Wesleyan by the score of 3-1.
North Carolina Wesleyan scored the first goal of the game at the 67 minute mark as Torben Vennemann found the back of the net off of a pass from Simond Kargbo. Wesleyan extended its lead just six minutes later when Samba Cande slipped one past the keeper to take a 2-0 advantage. Cande's goal was assisted by Xavier Mensah.
The Maroons finished the day with five shots to the Battling Bishops' 13. Roanoke saw one shot each from Tyler Carbaugh, Garrett Eldridge, Dionys Beck, Christopher Fisher and Orestis Ilias. Cole Sinclair played all 90 minutes between the pipes for the Maroons.
The Maroons return to action on Saturday, October 19th as the Maroons take on Virginia Wesleyan in Kerr Stadium. That contest is scheduled for a 7:00 PM start. The game will also be a special showcase match for Old Dominion Athletic Conference's video streaming service, ODAC.tv. Viewing of the game is free and it will be one of the first live games on the ODAC's new service.
