Former players welcomed back for Soccer Alumni Day
The Maroon Club welcomed back former players back to campus for "Soccer Alumni Day" at Kerr Stadium on Saturday Oct. 11. Over 30 men's soccer alums returned for the weekend with nearly 20 taking part in the alumni game on Saturday.

"We are very proud of our Roanoke Men's Soccer alumni base and it was outstanding to have them back on campus for the alumni day," said head coach Ryan Pflugrad '02.  "The alumni game was exciting and spirited, with entertaining skill and goals displayed.  The Maroon Club pre-game tailgate gave the guys who returned an opportunity to catch up, socialize and help root on the current team.  This is an event we are looking to grow in the future and I think this weekend was a terrific starting point."

The men's soccer alumni met at Kerr Stadium on Saturday afternoon and played a 50-minute match. Both current and former parents, along with alumni and the current team were in attendance cheering on the former players.  The game ended with the grey team defeating the maroon squad, 12-7 in the second fall alumni game.  Former head coach and current athletic director Scott Allison '79 enjoyed the day as well, conducting a scouting report on all the former players who came back to participate.

At the tailgate, Asst. AD for External Relations Brad Moore spoke to the alumni about the tradition of the program, importance of staying connected to the program, building this event and bring more alumni back. Maroon Club giveaway items were given to all in attendance.

After the alumni game, the guys took part in a tailgate that afternoon before the men's soccer contest at 7 PM vs. ODAC foe, Hampden-Sydney. In a rain-soaked physical contest, the Maroons were able to come out on top 1-0 against the Tigers. The lone goal of the game was scored by Tyler Carbaugh off of a rebounded shot from Marc Dinkel in the first half and held on for the victory.

The men's soccer team (11-2-2), who are ranked #24 in the latest NSCAA National poll, remain atop the ODAC Standings at 8-0-1 with two regular season matches left before conference tournament play.  Salisbury, who handed the Maroons one of their two defeats this fall, is ranked #15 in the weekly survey.  Lynchburg, who Roanoke defeated 1-0 on the road Tuesday, Oct. 21, is ranked ninth in the NSCAA South Atlantic Regional rankings.  Case Western Reserve, who tied the Maroons at the beginning of the season (1-1), is ranked 10th in the Great Lakes Regional poll.

The Maroons host Washington and Lee (10-3-1) on Saturday, Oct. 25 at 7 PM at Kerr Stadium.  That game will be "Roanoke Star Night." The Generals received votes in the latest NSCAA South Atlantic Regional rankings. The men close out the regular season against Guilford at home on Tuesday, Oct. 28 at 7:30 PM which will be a "Pack the House" night with a FREE tailgate for all in attendance.  The ODAC Tournament begin on Nov. 1 with the quarterfinal round as the Maroons earn the right to host that Saturday at Kerr Stadium!
