Roanoke Edged By Lynchburg In 2014 ODAC Championship Game
SALEM – After winning eight straight games down the stretch, the Roanoke College men's soccer team fell in the 2014 ODAC Championship Game, 1-0 to Lynchburg College on Saturday evening.  The Maroons exit the tournament with a record of 15-3-2, 10-0-1 in ODAC play, while the Hornets advance to the NCAA Tournament with a record of 13-6-1, 8-3 in the ODAC.

For the first time since 2002, and the second time in school history, the Maroons finished undefeated in the ODAC regular season, winning a school-record 10 ODAC contests.  The Maroons' 15-3-2 record ties with the 2000 team as the fifth-highest single season win total in school-history.  The Maroons won the ODAC Regular Season Title for the 14th time overall and the third time in last four years.

Through the season Marc Dinkel led the Maroons in both goals (12) and assists (13).  His 37 points this season rank fifth all-time in single-season points, tied with Billy King (1985).  He was one point short of tying Roanoke head coach Ryan Pflugrad, who tallied 38 points in the 2000 campaign.  In just two years of play, he ranks eighth all-time at Roanoke for assists with 19.  Robby Lentine and Tyler Carbaugh are second and third for the Maroons in scoring this season, netting five and four goals, respectively.  They each also tallied five assists each.

The two teams played evenly through the first half with Roanoke getting off four shots to Lynchburg's two.  However, neither team could find the back of the net in the first 45 minutes of play. The game winner came from Josh Hinkle in the 57th minute of the game.  Luke Moore fired off a serve from a corner kick, finding the head of Hinkle who buried the shot in the upper left hand corner of the goal.  The Maroons were only able to get two more shots off in the remainder of the contest, but Lynchburg kept Roanoke at bay, winning the 2014 ODAC Championship by the score of 1-0.

The Maroons finished the contest with seven shots, two of which were on goal.  Roanoke was led in shots by Fortune Sibanda, who took two attempts on the evening.  Tyler Carbaugh, Cole Thornton, Sam Rauf, Adam Yesbeck and Marc Dinkel all took one shot apiece.  Cole Sinclair played the complete game in net, tallying one save on two shots faced.  After the ODAC Championship game, Sinclair still has the lowest goals-against average in the conference with a mark of 0.67.

Lynchburg tallied nine shots in the win.  The Hornets were led by Luke Moore with five shots, one on goal.  Josh Hinkle followed with two shots, while Tim Clancy and Fredy Flores took one shot each.  Cory Budka also played the complete game, finishing the night with two saves.

The Maroons now must wait until Monday at 2:00 PM for the NCAA Men's Soccer Championship Selection Show to find out if they will receive an at-large bid.
