SALEM, Va. -- As the Roanoke men's soccer team begins its summer preparation for the upcoming 2023 season, head coach Ryan Pflugrad '02 has announced the hiring of Matt Campbell as the program's new assistant coach.

"We very excited to add Matt to the staff and to the Roanoke College family," stated Pflugrad.

Campbell comes to Roanoke most recently after serving as a graduate assistant coach at fellow ODAC member Randolph during the 2022 season. He graduated in May 2023 with a Masters in Coaching and Sport Leadership from Randolph.

Prior to his time with the WildCats, Campbell spent his four seasons as a collegiate player at another ODAC school, Virginia Wesleyan. With the Marlins he played in 62 games, starting 52 and was a two-year captain. In 2021 he was named the VWU Sport and Recreation Professions Outstanding Student. He also served as the team's representative on the SAAC committee. He graduated in 2022 from the Virginia Beach institution with a Bachelors in Sport and Recreation Management

"His experiences in the ODAC as a player and coach, regional recruiting ties, and drive to develop positive team cultures and successful teams stood out in our search process," added Pflugrad. "His motivation and skill set will benefit our players experiences and our program here at Roanoke."
