Three RC Swimmers Earn All-State

Three RC men's swimmers named All-State

The Virginia Sports Information Directors (VaSID) announced their inaugural All-State Men's Swim teams on Friday morning. It marked the first time, founded in 1982, the organization voted on men's and women's swim teams and a trio of Roanoke men were honored on the first and second teams.

Connor Kinkema qnd Josh Rauch were named to the 1st team while sophomore Ben Tate claimed a spot on the 2nd team.

Kinkema, a sophomore from Collinsville, made the first team after a season that saw him earn 1st team All ODAC honors for the second consecutive season. At the Championship meet in February, Kinkema set several school and conference records en route to winning 100 and 200 Breaststroke as well as the 400 Individual Medley. His time of 2:02.09 in the 200 Breaststroke earned Connor a 'B' cut for the 2020 NCAA DIII National Championships. A year after being named the ODAC Rookie of the Year, Kinkema also set the a conference best time in the 50 Breaststroke.

Rauch earned 1st team All ODAC honors in just his first collegiate season. At the ODAC Championship meet, the first-year swimmer won the 1000 and 1650 Freestyle events. In the 1650, Rauch became the ODAC record holder in that event after touching the wall in 16:23.58. His 9:53.18 time in the 1000 was the fastest time in the conference for the season as well.

Tate, also a 1st team All ODAC swimmer, made the VaSID 2nd team. A versatile swimmer from Boones Mill, was in the top three in the final ODAC top times in several events. At the conference championships, Tate finished 2nd and 3rd in the 100 Freestyle and 100 Fly. In the 500 Freestyle, Tate set the ODAC record with a final time of 4:36.53. In the final ODAC top times list, he was first in the 500 Freesyle, second in the 200 Freestyle, and third in the 50, 100, and 200 Fly. Tate and Rauch also teamed with Cole Hensen and Brian Grimmett take set the school record in the 800 Freestyle Relay (6:55.71).
