HARRISONBURG, Va. --- Roanoke swept Eastern Mennonite in ODAC doubleheader action, 2-1 and 5-2 Thursday afternoon. The Maroons improved to 23-9, 12-6 in the ODAC. The Royals are now 15-17, 5-11 in the conference.
The women scored two runs in the top of the seventh and held on for a 4-3 win over the Royals in game one.
Liz Norwich (6-3) threw her fifth complete game performance of the season in a 4-3 win in game one. She finished with six strikeouts and allowed two earned runs while scattering seven hits.
Jessica Zeman went 3-for-4 with two runs, an RBI-double and two stolen bases. She passed Loren Messick '08 in career stolen bases with 21, which moved her up to eighth all-time at Roanoke.
Kelsey Ruitenberg went 2-for-3 including her 12th double of the season, which ties her for ninth in that category at Roanoke. Her 24 career doubles are one shy of tying her sister and 2008 alum, Erin Ruitenberg for seventh all-time.
Felice Lowery and Katherine Kouri each went 2-for-3 with Lowery hitting her sixth double of the season.
Ruitenberg (8-1) picked up the win in game two's 5-2 victory over the Royals to complete the sweep. She threw her fifth complete game of the season, striking out eight and scattered four hits.
Down 1-0 in the top of the third, Felice Lowery hit a two-run blast that sailed over the right field wall to give the Maroons a 2-1 lead.
In the fourth, Roanoke added some insurance runs to go up three, 5-2. Katherine Kouri hit a double and was brought in by Lisa Scruggs RBI-single. Taylor Zahn came in to pinch run and stole second. She was brought home by Lowery as Zeman followed suit off a wild pitch for the final run of the afternoon.
Scruggs and Jani Holmes each went 2-for-3 while Zeman hit an infield single and scored twice. Lowery finished with three RBI's including her fourth home run of the season.
The women will host Virginia Intermont in the regular season finale at Moyer Complex Monday, April 20. The non-conference doubleheader is scheduled to begin at 5 p.m.
