Maroons Win Two over Eastern Mennonite on Friday
HARRISONBURG – The #18 Roanoke College softball team took two games against Eastern Mennonite University on Friday afternoon, winning 2-1 and 9-1.  The Maroons now have a record of 15-4, 4-0 in ODAC play while the Royas are now 14-8, 3-3 in the ODAC.
 
The Maroons scored their two runs early in the game as Caitlin Manuel hit a two RBI home run in the top of the second, scoring Alexis Roop on the play.  After the second inning, Roanoke held a 2-0 lead.  The Royals scored in the bottom of the fourth inning as pitcher, Jordan Aylor, hit an RBI triple, scoring Angela Miller.  This would be the last run scored in the contest as Roanoke took the 2-1 victory in game number one.
 
Six Maroons finished the game with one hit each, while Manual had two RBIs and one run scored.  Kelly Higbie (7-3) picked up the victory pitching 6-1 innings, giving up just one run off seven hits.  Stephanie Clark earned the save with 0.2 innings pitched.
 
Angela Miller led the Royals in hitting, going 2-2 scoring the lone run of the contest.  Brook Sigrist also had two hits.  Molly Smith picked up the loss, throwing 4.1 inning and was credited with one run scored.
 
In the second game, both teams remained scoreless for the first two innings.  Eastern Mennonite got on the board in the bottom of the third after Brook Hensley scored on a wild pitch.  After the third inning, the Royals led 1-0.  Neither team scored again until Roanoke caught fire in the top of the sixth.
 
Alea Bier bunted, reaching on a throwing error, which scored both Leona Rainey and Rhea Schleicher.  Two batters later, Stephanie Clark hit a two RBI home run scoring Bier as well.  After the next two batters reached base, Morgan Wood hit a three-run homer to left field, plating Manuel and Roop.  After the top of the sixth, Roanoke led 7-1.  The Maroons poured on two more runs after RBI hits from Hollee Warlitner and Clark.  At the end of the contest, Roanoke won 9-1 over Eastern Mennonite in the second game.
 
Leona Rainey led the Maroons in hitting, going 3-4, scoring a team high two runs.  Stephanie Clark followed in hitting with two hits and a team-high three RBIs.  She was tied in RBIs by Morgan Wood.  Clark (7-1) earned the victory pitching a complete game, giving up just one run off seven hits and striking out five.
 
Brooke Hensley led the Royals going 2-4 and scoring the team's lone run.  Five different players on the team finished with one hit each.  Kaitlyn Morris (3-6) took the loss for Eastern Mennonite, giving up five runs off four hits.
 
The Maroons return to action on April 2nd as they take on Virginia Intermont College at the Moyer Complex.  That contest is scheduled for a 5:00 PM start.
