Roanoke Softball Splits Pair With Emory & Henry on Thursday
EMORY - The Roanoke College softball team split a pair of Old Dominion Athletic Conference games against Emory & Henry on Thursday evening.  The Maroons now have a record of 8-13, 4-4 in the ODAC, while the Wasps are 15-7, 1-5 in ODAC play.
 
Emory & Henry picked up the win in the first contest, 4-2, while the Maroons were victorious in game number two, 6-5 in eight innings.
 
The Maroons jumped on the Wasps early in the first game, as Taylor Sutherland scored on a fielding error during a Stephanie Clark at-bat.  Roanoke added one more as Katie Romano hit an RBI single to center field, bringing around Katie Romano to score.  After two innings, Roanoke led 2-0 over the Wasps.
 
The Wasps made their comeback over the third and fourth innings.  Jordan Chrisley scored on a throwing error, putting the Wasps first run on the board.  In the bottom of the fourth, Courtney Hasley crossed the plate after another throwing error by the Maroons.  Hannah Bays then came up with a two RBI double down the right field line, scoring Chrisley and Devynne Stiltner.  After four innings, the Wasps led 4-2.  Emory & Henry held off the Maroons for the remainder of the contest, picking up the win in game number one, 4-2.
 
The Maroons finished with seven hits in the first game, led by Katie Romano with three, going 3-3 in the game.  Rhea Schleicher and Jordan Meador each tallied two hits apiece in the game.  Taylor Sutherland and Sarah Groft each stole one base during the contest as well.  Kelly Higbie (5-7) was tabbed with the loss, giving up four runs while striking out two batters.
 
Hannah Bays, Taylor Doss and Devynne Stiltner each finished with two hits apiece in the game.   Four different Maroons crossed the plate for the Wasps, while Martha Fluharty tallied the team's two lone RBIs.  Taylor Banner (6-3) earned the win, giving up two runs off five hits.  Brandy Bryant was credited with the save in the game as well.
 
Roanoke started hot in the second game just as they had in the first.  Emily Lawrence hit an RBI single in the top of the first, bringing around Rhea Schleicher to score.  Katie Romano hit a single to center field, while Schleicher, Rachel Guilliams and Kelly Higbie scored on a throwing error, giving the Maroons a 4-0 lead through the top of the second.
 
The Wasps answered in the bottom of the second putting up three runs after Jordan Chrisley hit a three RBI home run.  After two, Roanoke led 4-3 over Emory & Henry. The Wasps scored two more runs in the bottom of the fourth as Roanoke now trailed 5-4.  The Maroons scored the equalizer in the top of the sixth, as Stephanie Clark hit an RBI single through the right side, Scoring Schleicher for the third time in the game.  Regulation couldn't hold these two teams as the winning run came in the eighth inning.  Clark hit another RBI single, as Schleicher scored her fourth run of the game to win the game for Roanoke, 6-5.
 
Jenna Pendleton led the Maroons in hitting, going 3-3 in the game.  Four Maroons tallied two hits each, while Rhea Schleicher scored a team high four runs in the game.  Stephanie Clark (3-5) picked up the win in the game, giving up just five runs in eight innings, striking out six batters. 
 
The Wasps were led by Jordan Chrisley who went 3-4 with four RBIs in the second game.  Riley Budney went 2-3, scoring three runs.  Taylor Banner (6-4) earned the loss, after giving up the winning run in the eighth inning, while striking out two batters in the process.
 
The Maroons return to action on Saturday, April 5th as they travel to Winchester to take on Shenandoah University.  That double header is scheduled for a 1:00 PM start.
