Softball Drops Pair Against Randolph College
SALEM - The Roanoke College softball team dropped two games to Old Dominion Athletic Conference opponent, Randolph College on Saturday.  The Maroons now have a record of 11-18, 6-8 ODAC, while the WildCats sit with a record of 21-12, 8-6 in ODAC play.
 
Roanoke fell in the first game 12-11 in a marathon 10-inning contest, as well as dropping the second game 5-0 to Randolph.
 
Randolph got on the board first in the opening game, scoring two runs in the top of the second inning.  Roanoke then took a commanding lead in the bottom of the third, plating seven runs in the frame.  Sarah Groft opened the scoring by hitting an RBI single to left field, bringing home Emily Lawrence.  Ashley Crouch followed with a bases loaded hit by pitch, scoring Stephanie Clark.  Katie Romano then hit a two RBI single, scoring Groft and Kelly Higbie.  With the bases loaded again, Jordan Meador hit a three RBI triple, picking up Roanoke's seventh run of the game, taking a 7-2 lead.
 
Randolph went on to rally over the next four innings, outscoring Roanoke 6-1 through the seventh, including a two run home run in the top of the seventh, tying the game at 8-8 at the end of regulation.  It took three extra innings to decide the game, as Randolph opened the top of the inning, scoring four runs.  Groft came through in the bottom of the 10th with a two RBI bases-loaded single, plating Sutherland and Meador.  Katie Romano then reached on a fielding error, loading the bases again, and scoring Kelly Higbie.  However, the Maroons could not score the tying run in the 10th, falling 12-11 to Randolph.
 
Meador, Lawrence and Groft each finished the game with two hits each, while Higbie and Romano led the team with two runs scored.  Meador, Groft and Romano each tallied three RBIs in the contest.  Kelly Higbie was tabbed with the loss, giving up six runs off five hits, while striking out two.
 
Hunter Glave and Rachel Hickman led the WildCats with three hits each, while Glave tallied three runs and four RBIs.
 
Randolph held Roanoke scoreless in the second game, picking up the victory 5-0.  Roanoke tallied just four hits in the game, with one each from Alexis Roop, Stephanie Clark, Kelly Higbie and Rachel Guilliams.  Higbie pitched the complete game, giving up five runs and striking out two.
 
The WildCats had just five hits, led by Hunter Glave with two.  Erin Wehrhan led the team with two runs, while three other players scored one each.  Logan Carter earned the win with five innings pitched, striking out five.
 
Saturday was Senior Day for Stephanie Clark.  Clark has been a starter on the squad for four years, playing in 155 games.  She has a .335 batting average along with 15 home runs.  On the mount she has a 3.56 ERA with 173 strikeouts.
 
The Maroons return to action on Sunday, April 13th as they play Lynchburg College at the Botetourt Complex.  The first game is scheduled for a 1:30 PM start.
