Roanoke Defeats Buffalo State, Falls to Frostburg State in Extra Innings in Beach Blast
The Basics - Game One
Score: Roanoke 6, Buffalo State 1

The Lead: RC used a four run fifth inning to break open a close game and top Buffalo State 6-1.

How it Happened:
  • After Buffalo State took a 1-0 lead in the top of the third inning, RC went ahead in the home-half of the third when Rachel Guilliams doubled home Taylor Carter and Jordan Meador to make it 2-1 Maroons.
  • Meador got things going in the Roanoke half of the fifth inning when she singled to open the inning and moved to third on a one-out single by Carter.
  • A throwing error by the Buffalo State pitcher in the next at bat would allow both of the to score before a Becca Wenger double later in the inning plated Guilliams and Katie Smith to make it 6-1.
  • Ruthie Williams went the distance in the circle allowing just one run on five hits and striking out one to improve to 2-0 on the year.
  • Meador finished with three hits in the game, while Guilliams had a pair.

Location: Virginia Beach, Va.

The Lead: Frostburg State scored a 5-4 victory over Roanoke in nine innings on Saturday at the Beach Blast in Virginia Beach.

How it Happened:
  • Frostburg State jumped out to a quick 2-0 lead in the first inning before Meador was able to get RC on the board in the second when she tripled to score Kate Preister to make it 2-1.
  • Williams came off the bench to pinch-hit in the fifth inning and delivered scoring Smith to put RC in front 3-1.
  • With RC leading 3-2 in the seventh FSU capitalized on a miscue in the field by the Maroons to tie the game and send it to extra innings.
  • In the eighth, Carter doubled home Forbes who was placed on second to make it 4-3. Cater advanced to third, but further damage was halted as FSU retired Smith to keep it a one run game.
  • Frostburg would rally in its half of the eighth, getting a two-out RBI single to tie the game and then would score in the ninth to take the win.
  • Teresa Wagner took the loss after going 8.1 innings in the circle. She allowed five runs, but just two were earned. She struck out nine and walked five.
