The Basics
Game 1
Score: Ferrum 5 | Roanoke 4 (8 innings)

The Lead: Ferrum scored a 5-4 win over Roanoke in extra innings in game one of Wednesday's doubleheader.
How it Happened:
- Katie Smith hit a single in the top of the first inning and then moved to third on a Panther error before Anna Clowdis drove her in with an infield grounder to give Roanoke an early 1-0 lead.
- In the third, Taylor Carter led off with single, stole second and Smith moved her to third on a groundout. Carter then scored on a passed ball to make it a 2-0 game.
- Ferrum got on the board in the bottom half of the inning with a double from Maddie Ols and a single from Cheyenne Strickland to close the gap to 2-1.
- Mattie Morris and Kate Priester singled in the top of the sixth before Ruthie Williams and Samantha Baldwin drove them in to increase Roanoke's lead to 4-1.
- Ferrum responded with two runs in the bottom of the sixth with a two-RBI single from Ashton Lambeth. The Panthers then tied it up in the bottom of the seventh to force extra innings.
- Smith was placed on second in the international tiebreaker but Roanoke was unable to push the run across. Ferrum used a sacrifice bunt to move Jordan Hamlett to third before Ols drove in the winning run on a fielder's choice.
- Smith went 3-for-4 and Carter went 2-for-4 for the Maroons while Lois Carpenter went 3-for-4 and Lambeth went 3-for-3 for the Panthers.
Game 2

The Lead: A three-run first inning lifted Ferrum to a 3-2 win over Roanoke in game two.
How it Happened:
- The Panthers scored three runs off a double from Strickland and a two-run homer from Carpenter to take an early 3-0 edge in the first inning.
- Carter hit a two-out double for the Maroons to score Kendall Penn, who reached on a catcher's interference. Carter then scored on a Panther error to close the gap to 3-2.
- Courtney Oliver allowed no runs and only three hits in the final four innings, after replacing starter Taylor Asimakopoulos, but Roanoke was unable to complete the comeback.
- Roanoke was held to only two hits as Courtney Rudd allowed only two runs off two hits while striking out 11.
Up Next: Roanoke heads to Virginia Beach March 9-10 for the Beach Blast Tournament. The Maroons will face Penn College at 2:00 p.m. and Manhattanville on 4:00 p.m. on Friday.
