Game 1

The Basics 
Score: Roanoke 3, Pitt-Bradford 2
Records: Roanoke 10-7 | Pitt-Bradford 6-5
Location: Salem, Va.

The Lead: Roanoke opened the doubleheader with a 3-2 victory over Pitt-Bradford.

How it Happened:

  • Taylor Carter led off the first with a strikeout but she reached base when the third strike was dropped and she advanced to first base.  She then stole second base and would score later in the inning on a Panther fielding error to make it 1-0.
  • In the RC third, Bailey Perdue and Carter started the inning with back-to-back singles and would each score on an Anna Clowdis double to make it a 3-0 game.
  • Pitt-Bradford scored single runs in the fourth and fifth innings to pull within 3-2, but that would be as close as they would get as Taylor Asimakopoulos tossed the final two innings, allowing just one hit to save the game for Ruthie Williams. Williams started and went five innings, allowing six hits and two runs to improve to 1-0 on the season.
  • Kate Priester had a team-high two hits in the win.

Game 2

The Basics 
Score: Roanoke 9, Pitt-Bradford 1 (6 innings) 
Records: Roanoke 11-7 | Pitt-Bradford 6-6
Location: Salem, Va.

The Lead: Roanoke completed the sweep by scoring five runs in the sixth inning and earn a 9-1 win.

How it Happened:

  • With the score 1-0 in the Roanoke second inning, Katie Smith delivered a two-out RBI single to score Allison Wagner and Briana Nardone to extend the lead to 3-0.
  • Priester tripled with one out in the third inning and scored on a sacrifice fly off the bat of Kendall Penn to make it 4-0.
  • Pitt-Bradford used a leadoff triple and a single to get on the board and make it a 4-1 game at the end of the fifth.
  • The Maroons scored five runs in the sixth to secure the six-inning win highlighted by back-to-back singles from Carter and Smith. Samantha Baldwin drove in the final two runs with a single.
  • Courtney Oliver earned the win to improve to 2-2 on the season allowing only six hits and one run in 4.1 innings of work. Emily Salsberry picked up the save allowing only one hit in the last 1.2 innings.
