Game 1


Score: Roanoke 12 | Lynchburg 7

Location: Lynchburg, Va.

The Lead: Roanoke used a seven-run seventh inning to take a 12-7 win in game one.

How it Happened:

  • Roanoke broke open the scoring with a pair of runs in the top of the first inning off an RBI single from Katie Smith and an RBI from Ruthie Williams to take an early 2-0 lead.
  • Lynchburg tied the game in the bottom half of the inning with a two-out two-run homer from Taylor Mabry.
  • The Maroons scored one run in both the second and third inning to make it a 4-2 game. With two outs in the top of the second, Anna Clowdis hit a single to center, scoring Becca Wenger. In the third, Mattie Morris reached on an error to start the inning before being replaced by pinch-runner Scarlett Sisson scored on a wild pitch later in the inning.
  • With the score 5-2 heading into the seventh, Roanoke scored seven runs off four hits and two Lynchburg errors, highlighted by a two-RBI double from Allison Wagner, to extend the lead to 12-2.
  • Lynchburg rallied for five runs in the bottom of the seventh with an RBI walk from Sarah Commons and a grand slam from Carol Oberhelm to make it 12-7 RC, but that would be as close as the Hornets would get.
  • Clowdis was 3-for-5 with three RBI, Kate Priester was 3-for-4 and Wenger was 2-for-2. For Lynchburg, Skylar Dickens was 2-for-4 while Oberhelman tallied a game-high 4 RBI.
  • Emily Salsberry earned the win allowing five runs off seven hits in 6.2 innings for the Maroons.

Game 2

The Lead: Lynchburg scored a pair of runs in the second inning to win the second game.

How it Happened:

  • Lynchburg scored two runs in the bottom of the second as Kayla Hugate led off the inning with a single. Carol Oberhelm followed with a double, plating Hugate. Brittany Coffey hit an RBI single to right to score Sarah Commons and make it a 2-0 game.
  • Roanoke was held to only three hits in the contest with one each coming from Taylor Carter, Katie Smith and Mattie Morris.
  • Teresa Wagner was tabbed with the loss giving up two runs off eight hits in the complete game performance.
  • Kayley Cox earned the win allowing only three hits while striking out four for LC. Coffey led the LC offense going 3-for-3.a
