Roanoke Defeats Dominican and Eastern Nazarene

Game 1
Score: Roanoke 9, Dominican (Ill.) 3
Records: Roanoke 5-1, Dominican 3-3
Location: Clermont, Fla.

The Lead: Roanoke used a six-run fifth inning to take a 9-3 decision over Dominican Tuesday afternoon in Clermont, Fla.

How it Happened:

  • The Stars took an early 1-0 lead following a double-steal situation in the bottom of the first, plating Hannah Gordon.
  • Roanoke responded with a run as Serenity Bishop started the second inning with a double before Anna Clowdis moved her over to third with a sacrifice bunt and Meagan Evans scored her on a sacrifice fly to even it 1-1.
  • Dominican took their final lead with back-to-back doubles in the bottom of the second to make it 2-1 DU.
  • Scarlett Sisson hit a leadoff double before crossing the plate off an RBI from Kendall Penn. Roanoke then took the lead off a sacrifice fly from Shanan Hester to make it a 3-2 game.
  • Sisson jumped started the six-run fifth inning with a lead-off solo home run. Penn hit an RBI double and Bishop hit a two-RBI double. Evans and Sisson both drove in runs with singles to extend the lead to 9-2.
  • Emily Salsberry earned the win allowing only seven hits and three runs in the complete game performance while striking out six.
  • Sisson led the way going 3-for-3 with two RBI. Penn, Bishop, and Evans also added two RBI in the win.
  • For the Stars, Julia Orozco was 2-for-2 and Cat Klostermann took the loss giving up six runs off six hits.

Game 2
Score: Roanoke 13, Eastern Nazarene 1 (5 innings)
Records: Roanoke 6-1, Eastern Nazarene 5-3
Location: Clermont, Fla.

The Lead: 10 Maroons recorded a hit in the 13-1 five-inning win over Eastern Nazarene to close out the day.

How it Happened:

  • Brooke Trapuzzano hit a double in the bottom of the first before scoring on an ENC error to take break open the scoring at 1-0.
  • After a three-up-three-down defense inning, Rebecca Hensley hit a triple to score Kate Priester and Kendall Penn. Trapuzzano followed suit with a double, scoring Hensley to make it 4-0.
  • Roanoke tacked on six runs in the third inning, highlighted by back-to-back singles from Evans and Priester and RBI singles from Penn, Trapuzzano and Shanan Hester to extend the lead 10-1.
  • Pinch-hitter Riley Croghan drove in Elizabeth Rathbone in the bottom of the fourth before Allison Wagner hit an RBI single to add another run. Croghan then scored on a sacrifice fly off the bat of Hester to round out the scoring.
  • Teresa Wagner allowed only one run off four hits in the five-inning game. Trapuzzano was 3-for-3 and Priester was 2-for-2.
  • Dominique Santos was tabbed with the loss giving up eight runs off seven hits in the first 2.1 innings.
