The Basics

Game 1
Score: Roanoke 10, Emmanuel 4
Records: Roanoke 7-1, Emmanuel 3-4
Location: Kissimmee, Fla.

The Lead: Roanoke scored nine runs in the first three innings en route to a 10-4 win over Emmanuel. 

How it Happened: 

  • Rebecca Hensley hit a leadoff double and Brooke Trapuzzano walked to start the game. Serenity Bishop knocked them both in with a single to center. Briana Nardone continued the inning with a two-out, two-RBI single to take an early 4-0 lead.
  • In the top of the second, Hensley hit a single and Shanan Hester reached on a fielders choice before Bishop hit a double down the left field line, scoring Hensley and Hester to make it 6-0.
  • The Maroons tacked on three more runs in the third, highlighted by a double from Nardone and a trio of RBI singles coming off the bats of Hensley, Trapuzzano and Ellasen Spangler.
  • The Saints got on the board with a solo homer from Yuleska Ramirez-Tejeda in the bottom of the fourth before scoring two more runs in the bottom of the fifth to make it a 10-4 game.
  • Courtney Oliver replaced Emily Salsberry on the mound in the top of the sixth and recorded back-to-back three-up, three-down innings to secure the win.
  • Salsberry earned the win giving up six hits in five innings while striking out eight.
  • Hensley was 3-for-3 and Bishop was 2-for-2 with 4 RBI in game one. 

Game 2
Score: Roanoke 6, Defiance 2
Records: Roanoke 8-1, Defiance 5-4
Location: Kissimmee, Fla.

The Lead: Roanoke closed the day with a 6-2 win over Defiance in game two.

How it Happened:

  • After two scoreless innings, Roanoke busted open the scoring as Kendall Penn scored on a double steal situation to make it 1-0. With one out, Brooke Trapuzzano singled to center, scoring Allison Wagner. Trapuzzano then scored on an error to take a 3-0 lead.
  • In the bottom of the fourth, Rebecca Hensley plated Hailey Baldwin on a groundout to second for a four-run RC advantage.
  • With the bases loaded in the bottom of the sixth, Trapuzzano hit a single to right, scoring Hensley and Riley Croghan to extend the gap to 6-0.
  • Defiance rallied for two runs in the seventh off a single from Zoe Doll but that was as close as the Jackets would get as Teresa Wagner recorded the final out to secure the win. Wagner was credited with the save.
  • Courtney Oliver earned the win allowing only two hits in 5 1/3 innings.
  • For Defiance, Taylor Biggs was tabbed with the loss giving up six runs off six hits.
