The Basics

Game 1
Score: Carthage 3, Roanoke 0
Records: Roanoke 8-2, Carthage 6-3
Location: Kissimmee, Fla.

The Lead: Carthage scored three runs in the top of the seventh to defeat Roanoke 3-0 on Friday morning.

How it Happened:

  • With two outs in the top of the seventh, Carthage rallied for three runs started by a Roanoke error. Alexandria Millett then singled to score Danielle Koziczkowski, who reached on the error. The Lady Reds added two more runs on another two-out Roanoke error to take a 3-0 lead.
  • Carthage retired the Maroons in order in the bottom of the seventh to secure the win.
  • In the bottom of the sixth, Rebecca Hensley led off the inning with a single before Shanan Hester and Anna Clowdis both drew walks to load the bases. With two outs, pinch hitter Riley Croghan flew out to left field to keep the game scoreless at 0-0.
  • Stefanie Guercio earned the win allowing only three hits and striking out 12 in the complete game performance.
  • Teresa Wagner was tabbed with the loss giving up three runs, all unearned, off seven hits in seven innings.
  • Hensley recorded all three hits in the contest going 3-for-3 at the plate.

Records: Roanoke 9-2, York 7-5
Location: Kissimmee, Fla.

The Lead: The Maroons scored in five different innings to take an 8-3 win over York on Friday afternoon. 

How it Happened:

  • After giving up two runs off three hits in the bottom of the first, Roanoke responded with three runs of their own in the top of the second to take a 3-2 lead. Rebecca Hensley drove in the first run with a single up the middle followed by a two-RBI single from Brooke Trapuzzano.
  • Kate Priester added another run to the lead with a single to center field scoring pinch runner Elizabeth Rathbone in the third.
  • In the top of the fifth, Shanan Hester hit a lead off single, Serenity Bishop reached on an error and Anna Clowdis was hit by a pitch to load the bases. Priester grounded out to second allowing Hester to score to make it 5-2.
  • Roanoke added two more runs off two hits and two Spartan errors in the sixth, highlighted by a sacrifice fly from Hester and an RBI single from Briana Nardone.
  • A double from Trapuzzano plated Riley Croghan to round out the scoring in the seventh.
  • Emily Salsberry earned the win giving up three runs off three hits while striking out five.
  • Trapuzzano had a team-high three RBI, going 2-for-4 at the plate.
