The Lead: Christopher Newport topped Roanoke 5-0 to close out the doubleheader on Sunday. 

How it Happened:

• The Captains took an early 1-0 lead as Kaitlyn Hasty hit a sacrifice fly to score Grace Wild in the bottom of the first.
• CNU added three more runs in the bottom of the second with home runs coming from Sarah Proctor and Wild to extend it to 4-0.
• Roanoke was held to just two hits in game two as Rebecca Hensley was 1-for-2 and Briana Nardone was 1-for-2.
• Emily Salsberry was tabbed with the loss giving up five runs off eight hits while striking out four in the first five innings. Olivia Simmons pitched the final inning were she retired the Captains in order.
• Aubrey Bates earned the win allowing only two hits and no runs with six strikeouts. Wild and Patty Maye Ohanian were both 2-for-3.

Records: Roanoke 10-4, Christopher Newport 14-1
Location: Newport News, Va.

The Lead: CNU used a six-run second inning to take a 9-1 decision in game one. 

How it Happened: 

• After a scoreless first inning, the Captains used four hits to score six runs in the bottom of the second inning with Kaitlyn Hasty and Tara Deck both hitting two-run home runs.
• The Captains scored one run in both the third and fourth inning to push ahead 8-0.
• Rebecca Hensley was hit by a pitch and moved over to second by a ground out from Brooke Trapuzzano. Serenity Bishop then reached on a CNU error, allowing Hensley to score and make it 8-1.
• Trapuzzano and Bishop were both 2-for-3 for the Maroons, with Bishop hitting a double in the top of the first.
• For CNU Ohanian and Hasty both tallied 3 RBI. Emily Weatherholtz earned the win allowing only six hits in the first four innings.
