The Basics
Game 1
Score: Roanoke 1 | Bridgewater 0
Records: Maroons 19-8 / 12-5 ODAC | Eagles 10-11 / 7-8 ODAC
Location: Salem, Va.
The Lead: The Roanoke softball team played host to Bridgewater in their final tune up prior to the start of the Old Dominion Athletic Conference (ODAC) Softball Championships that start this Saturday. The first game with the Eagles was a low scoring pitcher's duel. A single Roanoke run in the third inning would prove to be all the offense that either team could produce and the Maroons picked up the 1-0 ODAC win. Game two would see Bridgewater race out to a 6-0 advantage. A three-run rally would cut the deficit in half, but in the end Roanoke would have to settle for a split with the Eagles.
How it Happened:
- Jada Karnes picked up her 12th win of the season by pitching a two-hit complete game shutout.
- In the bottom of the third, Brooke Trapuzzano singled but was erased on a Shanan Hester fielder's choice. After a fly out, Kate Houle set a shot to the right center field gap for a double to score Hester for the game's only run.
- Makayla Austin was a perfect 3-3 with Rachel Sirbaugh finishing 1-2.
The Basics
Game 2
Score: Roanoke 3 | Bridgewater 6
Records: Maroons 19-9 / 12-6 ODAC | Eagles 11-11 / 8-8 ODAC
Location: Salem, Va.
How it Happened:
- On run in the first and three more in the third would put Bridgewater in front early. After two more Eagle runs, the deficit for the Maroons would reach 6-0.
- Emma Killion would keep RC off the board until the bottom of the third.
- Madelyne Culkin singled to left and when Lilly Burns reached on an infield base hit, Roanoke had runners on first and second. A ground out would advance the runners into scoring position and a Katelyn Craghead single up the middle would plate Culkin, advancing on the throw to the plate. Meri Bostic cut the deficit in half when she sent a two RBI base hit to center field.
- Sirbaugh and Sammie Murphy were each 2-2. Savannah Thorne pitched two innings of shut-out relief, giving up just one hit.
Up Next: Roanoke will host Randolph-Macon in the 4/5 matchup in the quarterfinals of the 2021 ODAC Softball Tournament on Saturday. Game times will be announced later in the week.
