The Lead: Molly Hassell hit the game-winning jumper with one second left to lift Roanoke to a 53-52 ODAC win over Guilford Wednesday night.

How it Happened:

  • Roanoke forced a Quaker turnover in gaining the final possession with two seconds left on the clock. Hassell then hit the game-winner from the middle of the paint to give RC the win.
  • Hassell had 15 points for the Maroons followed by Allison Livengood with 11. Victoria Maxwell grabbed 12 rebounds on the night while Madeline Suhr registered six blocks.
  • In the first quarter, Suhr sparked a 12-2 run with a three-pointer at the 4:47 mark to give RC a 17-12 advantage after the first.
  • Back-to-back layups from Guilford in the final 1:15 of the first half made it a 27-27 game as the teams headed into the intermission.
  • Roanoke pushed ahead 33-27 scoring the first six points of the second half with a three consecutive lay-ups before the Quakers tied it back up at 33-33 following a layup from Julie Carini. GC went on an 8-4 run to take a 41-37 lead after the third.
  • The final quarter saw six lead changes and three ties with Guilford taking a 52-51 edge following a layup form Miracle Walters with 35 seconds left before Roanoke forced the turnover and scored the game-winner.
  • Carini scored 14 points for Guilford while Walters added 12. Lauren Ramsey had a game-high 13 rebounds as both teams were even at 45 boards each.
  • Roanoke shot 31.7% on the night going 19-for-60 from the field while GC went 31.1% going 23-for-74.
