The Lead: Eastern Mennonite used a 12-1 run in the fourth quarter and held off a late Roanoke rally to win 72-66.

How it Happened

  • Roanoke used a 9-3 run to take a 12-5 lead with three minutes to go in the first quarter. A Kristina Harrel three-pointer closed the first and gave RC a 15-10 lead after the first 10 minutes of play.
  • A Molly Hassell three-pointer to start the second quarter made it 18-10 before EMU went on an 8-0 run to tie the game.
  • The Royals took the lead with 3:14 to go in the half on a Brianna Zook layup and would lead 29-24 at halftime.
  • The third period was back and forth with neither team able to open up a sizeable lead. With the score tied at 51-51 in the fourth period, EMU went on a 12-1 run to pull ahead 63-52 with seven minutes to go in the game.
  • RC was able to pull close in the final minutes with a three-pointer from Laura McManimen to close the gap to 69-66 EMU. The Royals went on to sink three free throws in the 38 seconds to secure the win. 
  • Roanoke was led by Hassell with 19 points and Allison Livengood with 14 points, while Victoria Maxwell grabbed six rebounds
  • Lindsey Krisak scored a team-high 13 points, while Zook pulled down seven rebounds as EMU held a 43-32 edge on the glass.
