Ronaoke leads the series, 4-1 since 2004. The 15 goals scored in 2006 were the most in the series. The 10-goal win in 2004 (12-2) was the largest win margin in the series along with a series low two goals allowed. The Maroons won, 14-6 in the first round of the NCAA Tournament. The Captains defeated Roanoke, 15-14 in overtime for their first win in the series last spring.
Last Meeting vs. CNU
NEWPORT NEWS, Va. --- The women's lacrosse team fell in overtime to Christopher Newport, 15-14 on Sunday afternoon. The Maroons drop to 6-7 on the season while the Captains improved to 8-5. The 29 goals scored are the most in the series and the first loss for the Maroons against the Captains (4-1).
Down 8-3 midway through the first half, Roanoke chipped away at the Captains lead as Meegan Rourke scoring two of the Maroons three goals to close within two, 8-6 with four minutes remaining in the half. CNU scored twice in the final minute to give them a 10-6 at the half.
Roanoke came out in the second half and scored six of the first seven goals of the half. Amanda Hutchins scored off an assist from Ella Wade to give the Maroons a 12-11 lead for the first time since it was 1-0 with eight minutes remaining.
With 5:57 left in regulation, Gina Valles scored off a free position shot to give them a 13-12 lead. CNU scored with just over two minutes remaining to force overtime.
Paige Mason scored to give the Maroons the lead heading into the second overtime as CNU scored in the second and third overtime in which the Captains won their eighth game of the season.
Valles led the Maroons with three goals, one assist and three caused turnovers. Amanda Hutchins scored three goals and Mason had two goals, one assist and won five draw controls. Rourke finished with two goals in defeat. Cristen Sanfillippo won seven draw controls and added a goal.
Katlyn Scarlett finished with nine saves for Roanoke. Rachel Giljam had 18 for CNU. Hutchins has moved into 17th all-time in career scoring (128). She is only four goals away from cracking the top-10 at Roanoke in that category.
Last Time Out (17-1 W vs. Bridgewater)
SALEM, Va. --- Roanoke coasted to a 17-1 win over visiting Bridgewater Thursday afternoon at Kerr Stadium. The Maroons are now 11-4, 7-0 in the ODAC while the Eagles drop to 6-8, 1-5 in conference play.
With the win, the Maroons now hold a 28-3-1 all-time advantage against the Eagles, winning the last 25-straight. The 17 goals and the 16-goal win margin were both the most in the series since 2004.
Roanoke, ranked #20 in the IWLCA Div. III top-20 poll for the second-straight week, dominated the contest, with a commanding 54-9 shot advantage, including 34-3 in the first half and 39-5 shots on goal. The women also won the groundballs battle, 22-11 and forced 23 Eagles turnovers. In addition, the Maroons were successful in 10-of-15 clear attempts and won 14-of-22 draw controls.
Gina Valles led Roanoke with nine points which included five goals, a season-best four assists along with five draw controls. Carolyn Miller added four goals and one assist while Paige Mason had two goals and three assists.
Cristen Sanfilippo led Roanoke with four groundballs along with two caused turnovers. Mary Kate Cummings had a career-high three caused turnovers to lead the Maroons in addition to a goal and two groundballs. Katlyn Scarlett picked up her 11th win of the season with three saves and two groundballs
Mary Robinson scored the only goal for Bridgewater thanks to Erin Cartwright's assist with 3:21 left in the game. Colleen Schwind finished with 21 saves in goal for the Eagles.
Roanoke Ranked #20 in IWLCA for Second-Straight Week
Roanoke women's lacrosse remained at the #20 spot in the IWLCA Top-20 Poll announced this afternoon. The women have at least received votes or have been ranked all season and have been ranked in the poll over the last two weeks.
Other Maroons' opponents in this weeks' poll are #2 Salisbury, #10 Catholic, #13 Washington & Lee, #18 Elizabethtown and #19 St. Mary's. Mary Washington received votes in the poll.
The Maroons (10-4, 6-0 ODAC) are riding a five-game winning-streak and atop the ODAC Standings. The 10 wins equal last year's total with three regular season games left. The six conference wins are the most since the 1999 season.
Roanoke defeated Greensboro, 19-6, Virginia Wesleyan, 11-10 in overtime and Sweet Briar, 17-3 last week. The women have won eight of its last nine games after splitting its first six games of the season.
Gina Valles named ODAC Player of the Week for Second Time this Season
Sophomore midfielder Gina Valles was named ODAC Women's Lacrosse Player of the Week announced Monday evening. It was the second-straight week she has earned the honor.
Valles, a junior from South Windsor, Connecticut, scored nine goals with four assists for 13 points in three games last week. In addition, Valles won 15 draw controls and caused 10 turnovers in wins over Greensboro, Virginia Wesleyan and Sweet Briar. She finished with six points, (3g, 3a) in win over Sweet Briar and had three goals in the overtime win against the Marlins. She also had three goals and one assist in a win over Greensboro.
Valles' 13 points last week now moves her into 13th on the all-time scoring list (141 pts), four shy of 12th. She is also one goal shy of tying for 10th in career goals at Roanoke while her 237 career shots moved her three spots to eight all-time. Her 82 career won draw controls puts her in a four-way tie for fifth all-time and her 39 career caused turnovers puts her seventh in that category.

Roanoke sits atop the ODAC Standings with an undefeated 7-0 mark in ODAC play. It is the most wins for the Maroons in the conference since 1999, which was the last time the women finished undefeated (8-0) in the ODAC. The 11 wins are the most since 2007, which was the last time the Maroons advanced to the NCAA Tournament.
Gina Valles leads the Maroons with 71 points, 55 goals, 109 shots, 88 shots on goal, 66 groundballs, 42 draw controls and 25 caused turnovers. Paige Mason leads the Maroons in assists (20) while second in goals (28), points (48), shots on goal (59) and draw controls (29).

Gina Valles currently sits 12th on the career scoring list with 150 points. She needs six more to pass Kirsten Wagner for 11th all-time. She is 10th in career goals (119) and needs four more to move up to eighth all-time. Her 250 shots are seventh all-time while her 87 career draw controls are tied for fourth all-time. Her 42 career caused turnovers are seventh and needs two more to move into sixth.
Paige Mason's 117 career points puts her at 24th on the career scoring list and needs four more to move into 23rd on that list. She needs three more assists to move into the top-10 in that category. Her 84 career draw controls are fifth all-time. Her 50 career caused turnovers are third all-time at Roanoke.
Brooks Laufman has 126 career points which is two shy of 20th all-time on the career scoring list. Her 270 career shots are seventh all-time and needs 13 more to move up to sixth. Carolyn Clark's 37 career caused turnovers are two shy of seventh all-time.
