Women's Lacrosse Rolls in 22-6 Victory over Sweet Briar
SALEM – The Roanoke College women's lacrosse team rolled in a 22-6 victory over Sweet Briar College on Thursday evening.  The Maroons are now 7-5, 4-2 in the ODAC, while the Vixens are 4-10, 1-6 in ODAC play.
 
Darragh Evarts put up a season-high six goals on the evening, tacking on two assists for a total of eight points on the night.  She also finished with five ground balls and two draw controls.  Feeney followed suit with five goals and two assists for seven points.  Over the last five games, Feeney has scored one more goal than the previous game, starting with one goal against Middlebury, two against Hollins, and so on. 
 
Roanoke jumped out to a 3-0 lead in the first two and a half minutes of the first half.  Darragh Evarts started the scoring with a goal at 29:02, assisted by Claire Feeney.  Feeney and Meredith Bigelow scored the next two goals, unassisted.  The Vixens tallied their first score of the night on an Allison McLamb goal at the 26:09 mark on a free position shot.  After McLamb's goal, Roanoke rattled off seven straight goals to take a 10-1 lead.  During that span, Feeney potted three goals, while Allison Beames scored two.
 
With 15 to play in the half, Sweet Briar scored another goal, before Roanoke put away another pair of goals, one each from Evarts and Bigelow.  Over the final 11 minutes of the half, Sweet Briar and Roanoke traded a pair of goals each, with both of Roanoke's tallies coming from Evarts.  Evarts finished the first half with five goals, as Roanoke led 14-4.
 
Scoring slowed down in the second half, but it was still in Roanoke's favor.  The Maroons started the half with four straight goals, starting with Feeney in the first minute.  Feeney's initial goal of the frame was assisted by Julia Galanto.  The next three goals came from Bigelow, Courtney McCartin and Galanto, tallying one goal apiece.  Roanoke had built an 18-4 lead with 20:10 to paly.  Sweet Briar broke the Maroon scoring streak with a goal from Kelsey Barta off of a free position shot with 15:02 to play.  Roanoke took the next 13 minutes to start another 4-0 run.  Makenzie Haymaker started the rally with an unassisted goal.  At 9:37, Evarts landed her sixth goal of the night.  In the final three minutes, Madison Levine scored a pair of back-to-back goals, marking the Maroons 21st and 22nd goals of the night.  The Vixens scored one final player-up goal with three seconds left on a free position shot. After 60 minutes of play, the Maroons walked away with the 22-6 victory.
 
Meredith Bigelow finished the game with three goals, while Madison Levine and Allison Beames tallied two goals each.  Bigelow and Feeney each had a team-high four draw controls.  Lauren Curtin picked up the victory in goal, playing 37:46, making three saves.
 
The Vixens were led in scoring by Kelsey Barta, who tallied two goals.  Reba Gagne, Allison McLamb, Genny Kelley and Kim Orchowski each finished with one goal.  McLamb led the team with seven ground balls, while Orchowski notched five.  McLamb was also the team leader in draw controls with five.  Emily Williams was tabbed with the loss in goal, tallying five saves.
 
The Maroons return to action on Friday, April 10th as they take on Virginia Wesleyan at 6:00 PM in Kerr Stadium.  That game will serve as Senior Night, as well as being part of the opening night of Alumni Weekend.
