Women's Lacrosse Topped In ODAC Quarterfinal Game on Saturday
SALEM – The Roanoke College women's lacrosse team fell in the 2015 ODAC Tournament Quarterfinals to Lynchburg College 10-5 on Saturday afternoon.   The Maroons close the season with a record of 7-5, 7-1 in ODAC play.
 
The Maroons finished the season with seven wins, but had a strong second half to the season, winning six of their last eight games.  During the six wins, the Maroons outscored their opponents 95-41.  The Maroons also put together two back-to-back ODAC Player of the Week awards, as Darragh Evarts and Claire Feeney both earned the weekly nod.  A pair of Maroons end their career at Roanoke College among the best in program history.  Evarts ranks among the top five all-time at Roanoke College in eight statistical categories including: draw controls (1st – 337), points, (3rd – 310), goals (3rd – 231), assists (5th – 79), free position goals (3rd – 46), and caused turnovers (4th – 89).  Goalkeeper Lauren Curtin also ranks in the top five all-time at Roanoke in saves (5th – 462) and wins (4th – 32)
 
Roanoke jumped out to a 2-0 lead in the first half.  Claire Feeney scored the team's first goal off of a free position shot at the 24:23 mark.  Just seven seconds later, Meredith Bigelow maintained a draw control, ran the length of the half and scored for a 2-0 advantage.  The Hornets responded with three straight goals, two by Katie Seidel and one by Katherine Francis.  With 9:43 to play, the Maroons trailed 3-2.  At 8:11 to play , the Maroons scored once more, as Claire Feeney scored off of an assist by Darragh Evarts.  Feeney's goal tied the game at 3-3, which would hold to the halftime horn.
 
Lynchburg started the second half with three goals in a three minute span.  Francis netted two goals, while Seidel tallied one.  Claire Feeney scored her third of the game at 20:44 off of a free position shot.  After Feeney's goal, the Maroons trailed 6-4.  Lynchburg scored three consecutive goals again, through the 10:02 mark, increasing the Hornets lead to five, 9-4.  Feeney netted a fourth goal at 7:07, cutting the deficit to four.  However, the final goal of the game would come from Lynchburg's Lindsay Parker at 1:35, as the Maroons fell 10-5 to the Hornets.
 
The Maroons were led by Claire Feeney, who scored four of the team's five goals.  The fifth goal came from Meredith Bigelow, with four shots, three of which were on goal.  Darragh Evarts had the team's lone assist.  Evarts led the team with five draw controls, while Bigelow finished with two.  Allison Beames and Nicole Zelnik each finished with a team high three ground balls.  Lauren Curtin was tabbed with the loss in 50 minutes of play, making nine saves in the effort.
 
The Maroons outshot Lynchburg 31-24, while the Hornets had 16 turnovers to the Maroons 12.  Lynchburg led in draw controls, 9-8, including holding a 7-3 edge in the second half.
 
The Hornets Katherine Francis also finished with four goals, while Katie Seidel notched three.  Hailey Bossert made 13 saves in the win.  Lynchburg advances to take on #1 seed Washington & Lee on April 29th.
