The Lead: St. Mary's scored 12 first-half goals en route to a 17-11 win over Roanoke in women's lacrosse action Saturday afternoon.
How it Happened:
- Claire Feeney and Meredith Bigelow each had four goals for RC, while Katie Clements had a pair and Courtney McCartin added one goal.
- Each team had 27 shots, with RC leading 16-10 in the second-half. The teams combined for 51 turnovers while RC was 8-of-20 on clear attempts and SMC was 15-of-22.
- RC won 18 of the 30 draw controls with Feeney grabbing seven and Bigelow nabbing five.
- Meg Gesner had three goals, while four other SMC player had two goals.
- Gesner got on the board 1:16 into the game before Bigelow tied it less than two minutes later.
- With the score 6-3 SMC, the Sea Hawks reeled off six un answered goals to close the half to take a 12-3 lead into the intermission.
- RC opened the second-half on a 5-2 run with a Feeney goal making it 14-8 with just over 20 minutes to play.
- That would be as close as RC would get as SMC scored the next two goal to put the game away.
