RC Opens Season with 18-9 Win Over Centre

The Lead: Lilly Blair and Jenn Schwechheimer each scored four times as Roanoke topped Centre 18-9 to open the 2019 women's lacrosse season.

How it Happened

  • Emerson Foster scored the first goal of the game 1:13 into the action and it would prove to be the first of four unanswered goals for the Maroons to start the game.
  • After Centre got on the board with just under 20 minutes to play in the half, back-to-back goals by Ellie Armstrong and Schwechheimer made it 6-1 with five minutes to go in the half.
  • With the score 7-2, Hannah Hardy scored for Centre with 30 seconds to play to make it a 7-3 game at halftime.
  • The Colonels would come out and score three of the first four goals of the second half to make it an 8-6 game with 24:17 to play in regulation.
  • Goals by Katie Clements, Blair and Maeve Healy in less than a two-minute span pushed the RC lead back to 11-6 with 21:58 to go.
  • RC led 14-9 and closed the game out with four answered goals to put the game away.
  • Schwechheimer led RC with nine points as she added five assists to go along with her four goals. Clements finished with three goals, while Emma Boris had four groundballs and four caused turnovers.
  • Carly Schoudel made seven stops in the cage for RC, while Lola Duff made seven stops for Centre.
  • RC outshot Centre 32-16 and won the groundball battle 20-16.
  • Hannah Hardy had six goals and one assist in the loss for Centre.
