The Lead: Randolph-Macon used three goals in the final six minutes to upend Roanoke 16-15 in ODAC Women's Lacrosse play on Saturday.    

How it Happened:

  • Goals by Lilly Blair and Jenn Schwechheimer gave RC an early 2-0 lead less than three minutes into the game.
  • R-MC scored five unanswered goals in less than a five-minute span, taking a 5-2 edge on a Mary Castle goal with 20 minutes to play in the half.
  • Roanoke used a 3-1 spurt and pulled within 6-5 when Katie Clements scored with 16:26 left on the clock.
  • R-MC would score three times to go back up 9-5, before RC struck for three goals, the last by Ellie Armstrong that made it 9-8 with 5:08 to play.
  • The Yellow Jackets scored the final two goals of the half and the first goal of the second half to go up 12-8.
  • With R-MC leading 13-9, RC went on a 5-0 run, taking a 14-13 lead on a goal by Blair with just under 10 minutes to go in the game.
  • Castle sparked the decisive run with a goal with six minutes left and that was followed by a pair of goals by Erin Mattone who gave R-MC a 16-14 lead with 2:50 to play.
  • Armstrong was able to pull RC within one with 39 seconds left but R-MC secured the ensuing draw control to seal the win.
  • Armstrong finished with four goals for RC, while Clements and Maggie Lewis each had three.
  • RC held a 38-33 edge in shots, while R-MC won 20-of-31 draw controls.
  • Castle finished with five goals for R-MC and Mattone had three.
