Roanoke drops another close one to Oneonta State, 1-0

Salem, Va. --- Roanoke failed to put the ball in the net for the second-straight game against Oneonta State as they dropped a 1-0 decision this evening. The Maroons dropped to 0-2 on the season while the Red Dragons improved to 1-1.
The Maroons were outshot, 13-9 in the contest as Oneonta St. managed 11 shots on goal throughout the match to Roanoke's six.
After both teams battled through a scoreless first half, Lindsey Brechbiel scored the eventual game-winner after dribbling through defenders to put the ball in the net with 35 minutes remaining in the second half to give the Red Dragons the victory.
Kayla Murphy had six saves for the Oneonta St. while Lindsay Kooiman finished with eight saves for the Maroons.
Senior midfielder Meredith Grunewald made the Roanoke Invitational All-Tournament Team.
The Maroons will return to action next weekend as they host the ODAC/USA-South Challenge on Sept. 6-7. They take on Methodist Saturday, Sept. 6 at 7 p.m. and Greensboro the following day with game time also slated for 7 p.m.
