Adams, Haslett and Welfare Tabbed All-ODAC Honors in Women's Soccer
Three Maroons were named to the 2009 women's soccer All-ODAC Team announced Tuesday afternoon. Alida Haslett (Bryn Mawr, PA, Radnor)and Jessica Welfare (Roanoke, VA, Hidden Valley)were named First-Team All-ODAC while Rebekah Adams (Springfield, VA, West Springfield)was voted honorable mention.
Haslett, a senior captain and center back, was named to the all-conference team for the second-straight season. She started in all 19 games and finished with three shots, one on goal. A team captain this fall, Haslett was a second-team selection last season and finished her career starting in 60 of her final 61 games.
Welfare, a junior midfielder from Roanoke, was named all-conference for the third-straight season. She started in all 19 games, totaling a team-best 60 shots and 33 shots on goal. She finished second on the team in points (18) and goals with eight. Two of her eight goals came off penalty kicks and two others were game-winners. A two-time All-South Region performer, Welfare was named to the ODAC All-Tournament team last week.
Adams, a freshman midfielder, earned her spot on the all-conference team after totaling 11 points which included four goals and three assists. In 19 games, she started three times and 18 of her 27 shots were on goal for a 66.7% shots on goal percentage.
The Maroons finished 12-7, 7-4 in the ODAC. They earned a #4 seed and advanced to the ODAC Semifinals, where they fell to top-seed Virginia Wesleyan for the second-straight season. They faced a tough scheduled this season, in which four of their seven losses and five opponents came against teams currently playing in the NCAA Tournament.
