LYNCHBURG, Va. --- Roanoke held off Salisbury in a 1-0 victory in the Shellenberger Classic on the campus of Lynchburg College Sunday afternoon. The win improved the Maroons to a 2-2-1 record while the Sea Gulls dropped to 2-4 on the season.

With just over four minutes remaining in the first half, Katlyn LePore (Troutville, VA, Lord Botetourt) scored her first goal as a Maroon for the game-winner. Jessica Pease (Harrisonburg, VA, Eastern Mennonite) found Maggie Dent (Roanoke, VA, Patrick Henry) off a corner kick as her shot was blocked, but off the rebound save Dent found LaPore to record her first assist of the year.

Salisbury held the shots advantage, 13-8, but Roanoke held a 7-4 edge on corner kicks. The Sea Gulls committed 16 of the 22 fouls called during the contest.

Sarah Bradley (Richmond, VA, Deep Run) led Roanoke with two shots. Sarah Pfundstein and Brenna Stuhler finished with three shots each for Salisbury, including two of Stuhler's shots on target.

Melissa Orgera had three saves for the Sea Gulls. Lindsay Kooiman (Fredricksburg, VA, Mountain View) stopped five shots for the Maroons.

The women return home on Wednesday, Sept. 15 as they host Meredith in non-conference action. The match is scheduled for a 7 p.m. start.
