Roanoke Falls 1-0 at Home to Meredith
SALEM, Va--- Roanoke fell to Meredith College, 2-1 in non-conference action Wednesday evening at Kerr Stadium. The Maroons fell to 2-3-1 on the year, while Avenging Angels improved to 4-1.
Play remained scoreless throughout most of the first half, until Emmy Errante found the back of the net with just a minute remaining for the eventual game-winner. Errante then found Danielle Lee on a cross from the left side of the box in the 77th minute.
The Maroons looked good on paper, as they outshot the Angels, 20-13 and held a 9-2 advantage on corner kicks. McKenzie Garst (Roanoke, VA, Cave Spring) led Roanoke with six shots, four on goal and Rebekah Adams (Springfield, VA, West Springfield) chipped in with five shots, three on goal. Cindy Suttora (Long Island, NY, Our Lady of Mercy Academy) came off the bench to put two shots on the keeper for the home team.
Lindsay Kooiman (Fredricksburg, VA, Mountain View) took the loss in goal for the Maroons with a career-high nine saves on the evening. Kelsey Hopper picked up the win for the Angels recording 12 saves in the contest.
Roanoke will begin conference play this Friday, Sept. 17th as they host Randolph College. Kick-off is set for 7:00 p.m.
