Bradley's Overtime Goal Propels Roanoke over Washington & Lee
SALEM, Va. --- Sarah Bradley (Richmond, VA, Deep Run) scored her first career game-winner in lifting Roanoke to a 1-0 victory over Washington & Lee Wednesday evening at Kerr Stadium. The win improved the Maroons record to 7-3-1 overall, 4-0 in the ODAC. The Generals dropped to 3-3, 2-1 in conference play.
Bradley's second goal of the season couldn't have come at a better time, scoring the game-winner in the 115th minute in the second overtime. She took a breakaway pass in the middle, dribbled three times past her defender and sent a shot into the top right corner to give the Maroons their first win over the Generals in three years.
Roanoke, winners of five-straight, improved to 18-14-4 all-time against Washington & Lee. The Maroons are now 4-2 in overtime match-ups against the Generals. The win-streak is the longest since the 2008 season.
The shots were deadlocked at 12-12, with Wash. and Lee taking the 7-3 edge on corner kicks. The Generals did hold a 9-6 advantage on shots on goal.
Lindsay Kooiman (Fredricksburg, VA, Mountain View) recorded a career-high nine saves on the night for Roanoke. Emily Leary totaled five saves on the night for the Generals.
Ainsley Daigle led W&L with three shots, two on goal, followed by Page Minton with two shots on goal. Bradley had three shots while Rebekah Adams (Springfield, VA, West Springfield) had two shots on goal.
The women will return to action on Saturday, Oct. 2 as they travel to Virginia Beach to take on ODAC-foe, Virginia Wesleyan. The match is scheduled for a 4:30 p.m. start at Foster Field.
