Roanoke Battles Lynchburg to a Scoreless Tie
SALEM, Va. --- Roanoke battled ODAC-rival Lynchburg to a 0-0 tie Wednesday evening at Kerr Stadium. The Maroons record now stands at 9-3-2, 6-0-2 in conference play. The Hornets are now 10-2-1, 6-0-1 in the conference.
It was a conference showdown not only against the top-two teams in the ODAC, but in the top in their region as well. The Hornets and Maroons entered tonight's contest ranked #4 and #6, respectively, in the NSCAA South Atlantic Region Poll.
Lynchburg applied heavy pressure, totaling 22 shots, 12 on goal. They held a 12-2 second half shots advantage including 8-0 in corner kicks.
Roanoke, which hasn't lost over the last nine games, registered only one shot on goal from Jamie Johnston (Wallingford, PA, Strath Haven ). The Maroons totaled only three shots on the night.
Lindsay Kooiman (Fredricksburg, VA, Mountain View) was a major factor in the tie, coming up with a career-best 12 saves for the Maroons. Jackie Bader collected one save for the Hornets.
Brittany Klippstein finished with seven saves, three on goal to lead Lynchburg. Betsy Kwiatkowski totaled five shots, two on goal while Jessica Gonzalez, Cecilia Moore and Kristen Melchiori each had two shots on goal.
The women travel Saturday to Sweet Briar in an ODAC match-up. The match is scheduled for a 2 p.m. start.
