Women's Soccer Ranked Sixth in First NCAA Regional Rankings
Roanoke Women's Soccer is ranked sixth in the first NCAA South Atlantic Region Poll announced this afternoon. The Maroons are currently 10-3-1 on the season.
The women, which boasts a 7-0-2 ODAC record entering today's contest vs. Guilford, is atop their conference standings. The Maroons have a 10-3-2 south region record, including victories over conference-foe Virginia Wesleyan (2-1) on the road and Christopher Newport (4-1) at home. The Marlins and the Captains are ranked seventh and eighth, respectively in the poll.
Roanoke battled Lynchburg to a scoreless tie last week and fell to #8 Emory, 1-0 at the beginning of the season. The Eagles are atop the regional standings with an 11-1-2 mark, while the Hornets are fifth with a 12-2-1 record.
Lindsay Kooiman (Fredricksburg, VA, Mountain View) is ranked among the top-20 nationally in goals against average and save percentage. She leads the ODAC in both categories while the defensive unit has produced 10 shutouts, one shy of tying the school-record held by the 2007 team.
After starting the fall 0-2-1, the Maroons have bounced back, going 10-1-2 over the past 13 games. Head Coach Phil Benne recorded his 250th career victory last weekend with a 3-0 win over Sweet Briar. He is ranked 12th among active Div. III head coaches in career wins.
Stephanie Parenteau (Virginia Beach, VA, Kellam) leads the Maroons offensively in goals (8) and points (16) while Rebekah Adams (Springfield, VA, West Springfield) has six goals and two assists for 14 points and leads the team with 30 shots on goal. Freshman Sarah Bradley (Richmond, VA, Deep Run) leads Roanoke with five assists and 63 shots attempted.
The women will host Guilford this afternoon at Kerr Stadium in ODAC action. The match is scheduled for 5 p.m.
