Women's Soccer Game Notes vs. Virginia Wesleyan - ODAC Semifinals
The Women's soccer team will look to advance to their 12th ODAC championship game, first since 2007, when they face Virginia Wesleyan Tuesday night in the ODAC semifinals. The Maroons are 13-3-3 on the season while the Marlins post a 12-4-3 mark. The Maroons were picked fourth in the preseason poll, while the Marlins were tabbed third.
Roanoke is coming off a convincing 6-1 win over Randolph- Macon on Saturday. The Maroons got goals from Steph Parenteau, who scored twice, in addition to Rebekah Adams, Jess Welfare, Carmen Graves, and Brianna Quintiliani. Senior goalkeeper Lindsay Kooiman was credited with three saves, as the Roanoke outshot the Yellow Jackets 26-4, including 16-4 in shots on goal. The Maroons have won four straight, and are undefeated in 13, which has included a 1-0 win at Virginia Wesleyan on October 2nd. The Marlins advanced to the ODAC semifinals after defeating Eastern Mennonite, 4-1 on Saturday. They have won four of their last five matches. Virginia Wesleyan has yet to drop a road game this season, going 6-0-2 away from home and are the number three seed in this year's ODAC Tournament.
Roanoke beat Virginia Wesleyan, 1-0 in Virginia Beach on October 2nd. It was the first time the Maroons have knocked off Virginia Wesleyan since the 2001 season. It ended a 12-game losing streak to the Marlins, who holds a 15-12-2 series lead. Welfare got the game-winner on a penalty kick with 1:47 remaining in the first half.
