Roanoke Picks Up Second Win of Weekend, Defeats CNU 2-1
NEWPORT NEWS - The Roanoke women's soccer team picked up its second win of the weekend, defeating Christopher Newport 2-1, on Sunday. The Maroons move to 5-1-1, 1-0-0 ODAC, while the Captains drop to 2-4-0 and 0-0-0 in USA South play.

Both teams played fairly even through the first 45 minutes of play. At the 55-minute mark, Sarah Valero (Staten Island, NY, Staten Island Academy) recieved a pass off the left side from Rebekah Adams (Springfield, VA, West Springfield), juked past a defender and placed the ball in the center of the net. Valero's third goal of the season put the Maroons ahead 1-0.

In the 71st minute, the Captains saw the game tied at 1-1, as a deflection off a Roanoke player found the back of the net resulting in an own goal. However the Maroons recoverd quickly as Adams was on the recieving end of a pass from Stephanie Parenteau (Virginia Beach, VA, Kellam), which she touched into the left corner of the goal for the 2-1.

The teams were tied in shots 12-12. Roanoke goalkeeper Carolyn Sarbacher (Dunkirk, MD, Northern)saw six shots on goal and saved five.

The Maroons will return to action on Wednesday, Sept. 21, as they play host to Hollins in Donald J. Kerr Stadium. The game is scheduled to begin at 7:00 p.m.
