Women's Soccer Battles #2 Emory to 1-1 Draw
ATLANTA, GA - The Roanoke College women's soccer team took on #2 ranked Emory University in a contest that ended in a 1-1 draw.

The Maroons now sit with a record of 3-2-1, while the Eagles are now 4-0-2. Roanoke last faced Emory on September 10, 2011 in the Roanoke Invitational, where the #4 ranked Eagles defeated the Maroons 2-0.

Roanoke held off Emory for the first 45 minutes of the contest as they were outshot 7-0 in the period. But, it would be in the second half when the Maroons broke away from the Eagles. At the 55:41 mark in the game, Carmen Graves received a cross from Pierce Bradner and headed it into the back of the goal to give the Maroons the 1-0 lead.

Roanoke's lead would only hold for five minutes as a stolen pass by Charlotte Butker, led to a game-tying goal by Veronica Romero with thirty minutes to play. The Maroons continued to battle through regulation as Emory took 13 shots in the second half. After 90, the game was still locked up at 1-1. The teams went through two periods of extra time, and neither team could put away the game, resulting in the draw.

The Maroons finished the game with two shots compared to the 28 of the Eagles. Roanoke's second shot came from Cindy Suttora, which she put on goal. Carolyn Sarbacher played all 110 minutes in goal, faced 13 shots and tallied 12 saves.

The Maroons will return to action on Wednesday, September 19th as they travel to Harrisonburg to face off against Eastern Mennonite University. That contest is scheduled for a 7:00 PM start.
