Women's Soccer Ties #9 Lynchburg 2-2 on Friday
SALEM – Despite leading 2-0 at half, the Roanoke College women's soccer team tied Lynchburg College 2-2 in Old Dominion Athletic Conference action on Friday.  The Maroons now have a record of 8-4-2, 6-2-1 in the ODAC while the Hornets are now 12-0-3 and 6-0-3 in ODAC play.

Roanoke has a 15-17-3 all-time record against Lynchburg, and the Maroons are still looking for their first win over the Hornets since 2006.

This is the second time this season that the Maroons have played a nationally ranked team to a draw.   Roanoke traveled and played #2 Emory University to a 1-1 tie on September 16th of this season.

Roanoke went on the offensive early, as Carmen Graves scored a header goal at 6:54, off a cross from Rebekah Adams to put the Maroons up 1-0.  Adams found the back o the net just 10 minutes later to put Roanoke up 2-0, scoring off a rebound from the goalkeeper.  Carmen Graves took the initial shot and was credited with the assist for Roanoke's second goal.

The Hornets sparked a comeback in the second half when Dessi Dupuy shot across the face of the goal, and placed the ball in the left side of the net, cutting the deficit to 2-1.  With 16:23 to play, Lynchburg's Morgan Singer scored the equalizer at 72:58, netting the ball off a pass by Angela Bosco.   Neither team could put the game away in regulation, so the contest went to two periods of overtime

In the second overtime, Lynchburg had a shot at an open net, but Lauren Roth came in from the far side and cleared the danger for Roanoke.   Despite a few remaining opportunities, neither team could score in the extra twenty minutes and the game ended in a 2-2 tie.

Lynchburg outshot Roanoke 16-3 and led in corners 5-2.  Carolyn Sarbacher played all 110 minutes and tallied 10 saves.  Lynchburg's Dessi Dupuy led all players in shots with four.

The Maroons return to action on Monday, October 15th as they travel to Glassboro, NJ to face Rowan University.  That contest is scheduled for a 5:00 PM start.
