Since the start of October, the Maroons have gone undefeated with a 7-0-1 record. During those seven wins, the Maroons have posted six shutouts and outscored their opponents 28-3 over that span. Roanoke's defense has played a big role for the squad in October, including in this game where the Maroons held Hollins to just one shot in the entire contest.
The Maroons jumped on the board early as Ashley Barnes scored a goal in the right side of the net, having gathered a pass from Linnea Kremer. Barnes scored the next goal for Roanoke at the 26:26 mark when a loose ball found her boot. She was able to quickly make a play on the ball where she kicked it off the right goal post, bouncing in for the 2-0 lead.
In the second half, Barnes completed her hat trick, as she scored one more time at the 58 minute mark. In the final 15 minutes of the game, Roanoke would see a pair of career first goals for two Maroons. At the 75 minute mark, Jamie Donahue slipped a ball past the goalkeeper for her first career goal, giving Roanoke a 4-0 advantage. With just 10 minutes left to play in the contest, Sara Celec also scored her first goal as a Maroon. Roanoke held Hollins scoreless through the game as Roanoke picked up the 5-0 victory.
Roanoke outshot Hollins 35-1, with 13 different players taking a shot for the Maroons. Ashley Barnes led the team with six shots, followed by Sara Celec who tallied five. Five different players tallied three shots each. The Maroons saw three separate goalies split time in net, switching between Sara Dvorak, Kristyn Brogan and Casey Moore. The Maroons also held an 8-0 advantage in corner kicks.
Roanoke returns to action on Tuesday, October 29th as the Maroons take on Eastern Mennonite University. That contest is scheduled for a 5:00 PM start and will be a double header with the men's soccer team.
