Women's Soccer Completes Undefeated October, Win over EMU, 2-0
SALEM – The Roanoke College women's soccer team completed an undefeated October campaign after defeating Eastern Mennonite 2-0 in Old Dominion Athletic Conference action on Tuesday evening.  The Maroons finish the regular season with a record of 10-6-2; 8-3-1 ODAC, while the Royals now sit with a mark of 10-8; 5-7 in ODAC play.

The Maroons posted an 8-0-1 record in the month of October.  The last time the Maroons went undefeated in October was in 2010, when they finished with a record of 6-0-2 in the month.  During the nine October games in the 2013 campaign, the Maroons outscored their opponents 30-3, which included seven shutouts.

With tonight's win, the women's soccer team also completed its eighth consecutive 10-win season, a feat that has never happened in the 29-year history of the Roanoke College women's soccer program.  Roanoke's previous best streak of seven 10-win seasons took place from 1990-1996.

Both teams went scoreless in the first half, but the period didn't come without its opportunities.  The Maroons took nine shots in the first half, while the Roanoke tenacious defense kept the Royals at bay, not giving up a single shot.

The Maroons scored the first goal of the game at the 52:23 mark as Nathalie Torres scored off of a pass from Courtney Yoke.  For the first time in the game, the Maroons held a 1-0 lead.  Just two minutes later, Yoke tallied a goal of her own, as she was attempting a crossing pass in front of the goal.  As the keeper was attempting to make the save, the ball bounced off her hands and into the goal, resulting in a goal credited to Courtney Yoke.  Roanoke's 2-0 lead held through the end of the contest, as the Maroons won for the eighth time in October.

The Maroons outshot Eastern Mennonite 24-3 on the evening.  Lauren O'Brien led the team in shots with five, while Marlana Barnard and Courtney Yoke each finished with four apiece.  Carolyn Sarbacher, supported by an outstanding defensive core, played the bulk of the time in the net (61:34) tallying the team's lone save.

The Maroons will return to action on November 2nd as they play in the quarterfinals of the ODAC Tournament.  Roanoke will have to wait through the end of the Washington and Lee/Lynchburg matchup tomorrow to find out exactly whom and where the team will play on Saturday.  For more information on the ODAC Tournament, go to http://www.odaconline.com.
