Women's Soccer Tops Wasps 2-1 on Tuesday
EMORY – The Roanoke College women's soccer team picked up their first win in the Old Dominion Athletic Conference after defeating Emory & Henry 2-1 on Tuesday evening.  The Maroons now have a record of 5-4, 1-2 in the ODAC, while the Wasps are 1-7, 0-3 in ODAC play.

After today's contest, the Maroons now have an all-time record against the Wasps of 16-2, having won the last three consecutive meetings.

Roanoke found the back of the net early in the middle of the first half as Marlana Barnard hit a shot from 25 yards out.  The goal marked Barnard's fourth goal of the season, and eight total points on the year.  Barnard's goal would be the only tally of the half, as the Maroons ended the first 45 minutes ahead 1-0.

Ashley Barnes scored Roanoke's second goal in the 84th minute as she scored on a breakaway goal off of a slotted pass from Courtney Yoke, who picks up the assist.  This is also Barnes' fourth goal of the year, and ninth point overall.  Yoke earned her second assist of the year on the play as well.  Emory & Henry struck in the final minute of the game as Daishi Dudley scored her third goal of the year, pulling the Wasps within one.  However, Roanoke was able to hold off Emory & Henry for the final 45 seconds to pick up the ODAC win.

Roanoke outshot Emory & Henry 20-4, with Barnard leading the charge with eight shots, four of which were on goal.  She was followed by Emily Whitaker, who tallied three attempts on the evening.  Sarah Dvorak played all 90 minutes at goal, and was aided by the Maroons defense who only allowed one shot on goal.

Four different Wasps took one shot apiece, with Dudley taking the only shot on goal, resulting in the one goal.  Kayla Wright also played a complete game in net, tallying nine saves.

The Maroons return to action on Saturday, September 27th as the Maroons play host to Randolph-Macon College.  That contest, which begins at 3:30 PM, also will serve as the team's Senior Day festivities.
