Late Goal Gives Women's Soccer 1-0 Win over Eastern Mennonite
HARRISONBURG – The Roanoke College women's soccer team won its third straight Old Dominion Athletic Conference game after defeating Eastern Mennonite 1-0 on Wednesday.  The Maroons are now 7-4, 3-2 in ODAC play, while the Royals are 3-6-1, 1-3 in the ODAC.

The Maroons had gotten off to an 0-2 start in ODAC competition, but have rallied in the last three games to get above .500 in the league.  Roanoke has defeated Emory & Henry, Randolph-Macon and now Eastern Mennonite to sit 3-2 in the conference.

Roanoke outshot Eastern Mennonite 11-1 in the first half, but none of the Maroons 11 shots found the back of the net.  The Maroons also held a 14-4 shot advantage in the second half.  The game remained scoreless until the 83:54 mark in the contest.  After a pass from Taylor Sayegh, Marlana Barnard fired off a shot at the goal which hit the post and caromed into the net, giving the Maroons a 1-0 advantage.  The Maroons kept the Royals without a shot for the final six minutes of the contest to earn their third straight ODAC victory.

The Maroons were led in shots by Barnard, Nathalie Torres and Abbe Guarino, who all took five shots during the contest.  Barnard's goal marks her fifth of the season, which ranks her ninth in the ODAC in goals scored.  She sits fifth in the conference in shots, having taken 35 this season.  Casey Moore got the win in goal for the Maroons, notching just one save over the course of the game.

The Royals were held to just five shot, led by Sierra Martin, who took two shots in the game. Marcy Smucker, Morgan Hill and Sara Shenk Moreno all tallied one shot each.  Brianna Stanard played the complete game in net and finished with six saves.

The Maroons return to action on Saturday, October 4th as they take on Virginia Wesleyan on the road.  That contest is scheduled for a 6:00 PM start.
