Women's Soccer Edged By Marlins, 1-0 on Saturday
VIRGINIA BEACH – The Roanoke College women's soccer team fell 1-0 to Virginia Wesleyan on Saturday afternoon.  The Maroons now have a record of 7-5, 3-3 in the ODAC, while the Marlins are 7-4-2, 5-1 in ODAC play.

The Maroons are coming off of a three game win streak, having had beaten Emory & Henry, Randolph-Macon and Eastern Mennonite.  Roanoke ran up against a Virginia Wesleyan team that is now on a three game win streak, and has shut out the five Old Dominion Athletic Conference teams they have defeated this season.

The Maroons trailed in shots 9-4 in the first half, with two shots coming from Courtney Yoke and one each by Laura Gabarini and Meagan Ryan.  Virginia Wesleyan's goal came at 20:05 as Kristen Cherry took a shot from about 15 yards out to the right corner of the goal.  After the first half, the Marlins led 1-0.

The Marlins would get nine shots off again in the second half, while the Maroons were able to take just three.  Roanoke shots came from Sara Celec, Meagan Branigan, and Marlana Barnard, all three shots wide of the goal.  However, the Maroons were able to keep the Marlins from scoring in the second half.  After 90 minutes, Virginia Wesleyan picked up the 1-0 decision over the Maroons.

Courtney Yoke led the Maroons in shots with two, while five other players finished with one shot each.  Sarah Dvorak played all 90 minutes in net, tallying six saves on seven shots faced.

Virginia Wesleyan finished with 18 shots, led by Kristen Cherry who took five.  Cat Galway tallied three shots while Allie Ketzler, Sherlanda Buskey and Annie Hartman each finished with two.  Megan Gerhart faced three shots and saved all three.

The Maroons return to action on October 10th as they take on Lynchburg at Kerr Stadium.  That contest is scheduled for a 5:00 PM start.
