Women's Soccer Battles Shenandoah to 1-1 Push on Friday
WINCHESTER – The Roanoke College women's soccer team played Shenandoah University to a 1-1 draw on Friday evening.  The Maroon have a record of 10-6-1, 6-4-1 in ODAC play, while the Hornets are 7-9-2, 7-4-1 in the ODAC.

On Tuesday, the Maroons picked up their 10th win of the season, a mark that the program has met the last nine consecutive years.  Women's soccer head coach Phil Benne is currently sitting at 297 career victories at the helm of the Roanoke program, with one regular season game to go.  If the Maroons can win the regular season closer on Tuesday against Guilford, plus advance deep enough into the ODAC Tournament, Benne could reach the 300 win milestone for his career.

Shenandoah outshot Roanoke 8-5 in the first half, but neither team could find the back of the net.  The first goal of the game came at the 54:30 mark as Marlana Barnard scored a goal off of a penalty kick in the second half, giving Roanoke a 1-0 advantage.  Roanoke's one-goal lead held for 18 more minutes until Shenandoah's Elizabeth Bellido scored off of a pass from Catherine Major, effectively netting the equalizer for the Hornets.

Through the two overtime periods, each team had chances to put away the game winner, with Roanoke taking four shots to Shenandoah's three.  However, none of the shots fell in the extra time for either team, finishing the ODAC contest in a 1-1 push.
Roanoke finished the night with 11 shots, led by Marlana Barnard, who fired off five attempts.  Linnea Kremer tallied three shots of her own, while three other players took one shot each.  Carolyn Sarbacher played all 110 minutes in goal, tallying six saves in the process.

Shenandoah tallied 20 shots overall, with Averi Rosena taking five shots to her credit.  She was followed by Catherine Major with four shots, and five different Hornets had two attempts each.  Erin Septer played a complete game in net, finishing with three saves, while Michelle Krause made a defensive save in the final two minutes to keep the Maroons from scoring the game winner in overtime.

Roanoke returns to action on Tuesday, October 28th as they play the regular season finale against Guilford College at Kerr Stadium.  That contest is scheduled for a 4:30 PM start.
