Women's Soccer Closes Regular Season With 3-0 Win Over Guilford
SALEM – The Roanoke College women's soccer team closed the regular season with a 3-0 victory over Guilford College in Old Dominion Athletic Conference action.  The Maroons enter the 2014 ODAC Tournament with a record of 11-6-1, 7-4-1 in the conference, while the Quakers finish the season with a mark of 2-16-1, 2-10 in ODAC play.

Unofficially, as seeds will be released after the ODAC regular season concludes on Wednesday night, the Maroons enter the ODAC Tournament as the #5 seed.  Roanoke tied Shenandoah with an ODAC record of 7-4-1, but will take the fifth seed as the tie-breaker came down to number of goals scored against teams already in the conference tournament.  The Maroons, who are on their ninth consecutive 10-win season, will head Virginia Beach to take on #4 seed Virginia Wesleyan on Saturday, November 1st, with a start time yet to still be determined.

While the teams concluded the first 45 minutes of the contest scoreless, the Maroons held a clear advantage in shots, firing off 12 while holding the Quakers without an attempt.  Roanoke scored the first goal of the game at 51:55 as Marlana Barnard scored off of a pass from Linnea Kremer in to the top center of the goal, taking a 1-0 lead.  Barnard's nine goals leads the Roanoke squad and ranks sixth in the ODAC.

Sara Celec joined in on the scoring 15 minutes later, tallying an unassisted goal in the top right corner of the net, giving the Maroons a 2-0 advantage.  The goal marked Celec's first of the season.  Roanoke's final goal came at 77:44, when Laura Garbarini passed it off to Kirstin Figel, who put the ball home for the three-goal advantage.

Roanoke outshot Guilford 19-1, with Marlana Barnard leading the Maroons with five shots in the contest.  She was followed by Linnea Kremer with three shots, while Sara Celec, Kirstin Figel and Taylor Sayegh tallied three attempts each.

Guilford finished the game with one shot, taken by Kelli Uresti in the second half.  Becca Banks and Caitlyn Young split time in goal, with Banks finishing with four saves to Young's three.

The Maroons look to be back in action on Saturday, November 1st.  The contest between the #4 seed Virginia Wesleyan Marlins and #5 seed Maroons will have a start time announced after Wednesday.
