Women's Soccer Class of 2016 Shines on Senior Day

The Lead: The RC Women's Soccer Team put away a school record 15 goals in its game against Hollins University on Saturday afternoon. With the exception of Brianna McCauliffe, who did not play today due to injury, all seven seniors were able to record a goal.

How it Happened:
  • Anna Carter lofted the ball over the goalkeeper to get the action started for the Maroons in the second minute of the contest.
  • Lauren O'Brien was the second senior to score on the night when she collected a ball that was dropped by the Hollins goalkeeper Audrey Haisley to put RC up 4-0.
  • Nathalie Torres was able to sail a ball past Haisley to give the Maroons a 10-0 advantage.
  • In the 51st minute, Heather Reynolds recorded her first career goal after being set up by Carter and Kirstin Figel.
  • Roanoke's leading goal scorer Ashley Barnes put away her seventh goal of the season in the 61st minute.
  • Kirstin Figel was able to pick up her second goal of the year despite Paisley getting a hand on the ball.
  • Sarah Dvorak, who was playing in the field rather than in the net, scored off a left-footed strike after a pass from Kendall McCreary to score her first career goal.
  • Dvorak, Sydney Sherman and Caroline Liebel combined for Roanoke's ninth shutout of the season.
  • McCreary also added two goals for the Maroon while Linnea Kremer, Marlana Barnard, Adelyn Fitzgerald, Meagan Ryan, Jillian Barnard, and Sara Celec also pitched in with one goal each.
  • RC outshot Hollins 35-4 and held a 7-1 edge in corners.
