The Lead: Sixth-seeded Roanoke College battled top-seed Lynchburg to a 1-1 tie, only to see the Hornets claim their sixth straight ODAC Women's Soccer Championship with a 5-3 win in penalty kicks.

How it Happened
  • RC came out firing scoring just five minutes into the contest on an Anna Carter strike from 20 yards out that was set up by Kirstin Figel.
  • LC responded just 2:11 later when Jade Woll collected a crossing pass from Morgan Singer and scored to knot the game at 1-1.
  • The score would remain deadlocked for the next 102:40 of play forcing the game to be decided in penalty kicks.
  • Each team scored on its first chance and the Maroons had appeared to gain the advantage when LC's Caitlin Mertens rattled a shot off the cross-bar but the ball's backspin carried back over the goal line.
  • With LC leading 4-3, Hornet keeper Tess Frelick made a save and Sarah Scrader closed the game out on the next pk to give Lynchburg the championship.
  • Sarah Dvorak made 13 saves in net for RC on her way to all-tournament honors. Dvorak was joined on the all-tournament team by Carter and Nathalie Torres.
  • The Maroons finish the year 11-7-3, notching their 10th consecutive season with 10 or more wins and the 18th time in the last 20 years all together.
  • RC is the first sixth-seed to advance to the ODAC Championship game since the league adopted the eight-team format in 1991.
  • The Maroons are the first team in league history to face each of the three top-seeds in the tournament, earning results against each. RC beat No. 2 Shenandoah and tied No. 3 Washington and Lee and No. 1 Lynchburg.
