The Lead: The Roanoke College Women's Soccer team opened the 2019 season with a 3-0 win in the second match of its Roanoke Invitational Soccer Showcase in Salem.

How it Happened:

  • Roanoke scored the only goal it would need on the day 17 minutes into the match when Emma Woods sent a corner kick into the box that Kathryn Van Orden was able to collect and score.
  • The score stayed that way until the 33rd minute when Lucy Perry was able to slip a pass to Hailey Davis who was able to beat Mt. St. Mary keeper Cyan Scott and give RC a 2-0 lead.
  • It was 2-0 at halftime and into the 63rd minute when Davis curled a pass into the box that Mia Clary was able to head past Scott and put RC up 3-0.
  • Roanoke finished the match with a 15-4 edge in shots and had five corner kicks to two for Mt. St. Mary.
  • Chris Martin played the first 71:13 in net for Roanoke and made three saves. Scott finished with five saves for the Knights.

Up Next: RC will close out its annual Roanoke Invitational Soccer Showcase on Sunday when it hosts No. 16 Johns Hopkins at 5:30 p.m. in Salem. The Blue Jays knocked off Lynchburg 2-0 earlier on Saturday.
