Culhane Headlines Seven Maroons On All state Teams

Seven Maroons named All State

The Virginia Sports Information Directors (VaSID) announced the 2021 Women's Outdoor Track & Field All State teams on Wednesday afternoon. Roanoke College would see seven different athletes earn spot on the two teams. 

Caitlin Culhane earned 1st team recognition as a thrower. The sophomore won the Hammer Throw at the 2021 Old Dominion Athletic Conference Championships with a distance of 41.90m and was named all conference. Culhane also posted a season best throw of 24.35m in the Javelin.

After being named 1st team All State during the indoor season, Grace Fowler was named 2nd team for her efforts during the outdoor season. Fowler was 2nd at the ODAC Championships in the Shot and earned a top five in the Hammer Throw. The freshman came back two weeks later to throw a season high 11.67m in the Shot and 32.60m in the Discus at NC A&T.

Hannah Koepfinger earned 2nd team honors in the hurdles after a season that would see her earn a trip to the NCAA National Championships. Koepfinger won the ODAC Championship in the 400m Hurdles and was 3rd in the 100m Hurdles. At the NCAA meet, the junior finished 14th in the nation in a time of 1:04.15.

The Roanoke College 4x400 Relay team was named to the All State 2nd team. The quartet of Emily Ball, Haylee Gamble, Mikayla Hefferonand Lily Lippert posted a final time of 4:00.33 at the ODAC Championships in a runner-up effort.
